The Weyburn Leisure Centre pool will be closed effective immediately to repair a damaged underwater light.

The damaged light was discovered this week and due to safety concerns will have to be repaired as soon as possible.

"Our first concern is with public safety. If the underwater light should fail, it would create an entrapment," said Director of Leisure Services, Mathew Warren.

He added that the failure of the light could cause the indoor pool to lose 30,000 to 40,000 gallons of water and flood the mechanical room.

A custom made underwater light has been ordered and will arrive in the next 10 - 14 days.

The public will be notified once the repair has been complete. The Weyburn Leisure Centre administrative area will remain open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
