Population growth marked in province

More people will continue to call Saskatchewan home. According to the latest figures released recently by Statistics Canada, as of October 1, 2017 the province’s population has grown to 1,168,057 or by 14,447 since October 1, 2016.

More people will continue to call Saskatchewan home. According to the latest figures released recently by Statistics Canada, as of October 1, 2017 the province’s population has grown to 1,168,057 or by 14,447 since October 1, 2016.

“Saskatchewan has enjoyed a decade of growth that has strengthened our province and allowed our government to make important investments in health, education, infrastructure and quality of life for everyone in our province,” Premier Brad Wall said. “I believe we are now entering a second decade of growth and that Saskatchewan’s best days are still ahead.”

Looking over the past year, the province’s population saw an increase from July 1 to October 1 of 4,132 people. Over the past decade, Saskatchewan has grown by more than 164,000 people or 14 per cent, the most growth in any 10-year period since the 1920s.
