The South East Cornerstone School Board has approved the budget for 2011-12 school year, with total revenues of $102.7 million, operating expenditures of $92.3 million, capital expenditures of $22.9 million and total staff of 1,113.96 Full-Time Equivalents (FTE). It will now go to the Ministry of Education for final approval.

This budget will continue to support the division's four priorities of Assessment, Math, Early Learning and Response to Intervention (RtI). It includes two new Pre-Kindergarten programs and an Early Learning and Care program that will support families of children who experience developmental delays. The first phase of the remodel of the Weyburn Comprehensive School is also included in the budget.

For operating revenues, the majority of the division's operating funding comes from provincially-determined property taxation and a Kindergarten to Grade 12 operating grant. Total tax revenue makes up the largest chunk of operating revenue, followed by the K-12 grant, School Generated Funds, Tuition and Fees, other grants and miscellaneous sources.

Major facility projects are partially funded by the Ministry. Estimated capital grants for next year include $8.9 million for the Weyburn Comp project, $1.4 million for three relocatable classrooms and $1.1 million for three roofing projects. Budgeted staffing includes 552.98 teaching FTEs, an increase of 6.47 from the previous year, and non-teacher staff of 560.98, an increase of 7.87 from the previous year.

Operating expenses are made up of salaries and benefits, followed by goods and services, debt service and amortization.
