ASSINIBOIA - The RCMP Musical Ride will perform in Assiniboia on Wednesday, June 15. Residents and visitors are invited to come out to see the world-renowned troop of 32 horses and riders perform at the Assiniboia Civic Centre.

Every year, the Musical Ride brings its show to communities across the country to perform a variety of figures and drills choreographed to music. The show provides the public with an opportunity to experience the heritage and traditions of the RCMP and raise funds for local charities across Canada.

For information on tickets, please call the Assiniboia RCMP Detachment at (306) 642-7110. All the proceeds from this event will go to Kinsmen Club of Assiniboia and Rotary Club of Assiniboia for local projects.

The Musical Ride was developed in 1876 by early members of the North-West Mounted Police to display their riding abilities and entertain local communities.

The first recorded public display of the Musical Ride was in Regina in 1901. This year, the Musical Ride is touring across Canada in celebration of Canada’s 155th anniversary.

“We hope to bring some great entertainment to Assiniboia and area for all ages,” said Howard Ellis, representative of the Kinsmen Club of Assiniboia,

“I am pleased to welcome the RCMP Musical Ride to Assiniboia on behalf of Assiniboia and Gravelbourg RCMP Detachments,” said Sgt. Dennis Silliker, NCO i/c Assiniboia/Gravelbourg RCMP Detachment.

“The history of the RCMP is uniquely tied to our area from the historic March West of the North West Mounted Police to the modern Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the services we provide our communities today. On a personal note, having been a member of the musical ride and traveling both domestically and internationally, I can say the RCMP’s red serge on black horses is still an icon that is recognized the world over and is a unique piece of our Canadian history. I would like to invite you all to come and participate in our celebration of Canadian heritage,” added Sgt. Silliker.

Tickets will be available starting Monday, May 9 at the Assiniboia RCMP, located at 101 Dominion Road, Assiniboia. Tickets must be paid with cash only. The hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
