In 2012, Weyburn issued a total of 160 building permits worth a total of $37,119,200; of this, 120 residential permits accounted for $32,002,700, which is the highest value of construction for residential buildings in the city's history.
Last year was the highest year ever in terms of value of construction, with 170 permits worth $70,424,245 issued by the city. There were the same number of residential permits issued last year, but they were worth half as much, at $15,960,450.
Besides residential construction, the other categories that saw construction activity in 2012 were commercial, with 24 permits worth $3,296,500; industrial, where nine permits were worth $1,075,000; and seven mobile homes, with permits totalling $745,000. There were no permits issued for civic or institutional projects in 2012.
In two previous boom years, 2010 and 2008, the residential permits were worth $21,926,880 and $24,365160 respectively.
This construction also provided the highest-ever number of multi-family dwelling units in Weyburn, with 188 created in 2012, but only 24 single family homes were built.
This compares with 28 multi-family dwelling units the year before, and 65 in 2010; the highest previous amount was 136, created in 2003.
For single-family homes, there were 42 and 44 built in 2011 and 2010 respectively, and the highest number of homes ever built in one year was 79 in 2008.
