June 9 and 10 saw riders take to the trails for the 25th Annual Moose Mountain Trail Ride. In weather that was a little uncooperative, raining for most of the ride, the riders still managed to enjoy themselves immensely. Despite the mud and their sore backsides they took pleasure in spending time with their family and beloved animals.
The new camp area near Saskairie was well liked by the riders. The trails were said to be beautiful with wild flowers in bloom. On Saturday the trail followed through the brush and across many washouts, but that didn't dampen the day.
Riders exclaimed that those in charge of the ride had gone to a lot of work: logs were moved out of the way, moved brush, and ultimately made it into a great ride.
Sunday they took in more of the prairie landscape. They were able to enjoy a much more agreeable day regarding the weather.
The riders camped overnight near Saskairie and enjoyed great meals provided by David and Shelley Slykhuis. Taking part in great conversations and games the riders had an evening of entertainment including a poker derby.
"This year the youngest rider is three years old and I won't tell you the ages of the oldest on the ride." Nora Weightman, member of the Moose Mountain Trailriders, laughed.
This year 52 members register, some did not take to the trails, but all enjoyed their time camping. People came from all over the area including Coronach and Fillmore came for the ride.
Despite the mud and rain it was ultimately a fantastic time with great views.
Though, the annual ride is now over, the group will still be partaking in their monthly rides. Held until October or until the weather gets too bad; they ride monthly to take in the beauty of the area and socialize with other trail riding enthusiasts. Spending time with their horses and other horse lovers is something that they all have in common, so it is encouraged for anyone who shares this love to join.
