RM of Estevan enjoys strong 2013

It appears that 2013 was a strong one for the RM of Estevan as it continued to enjoy some impressive growth. In a press release the RM announced it issued $35.86 million in building permits in 2013.

In a press release the RM announced it issued $35.86 million in building permits in 2013.

According to the release, 53 permits were issued in 2013. Of those permits, 26 were for single-family residential dwellings or additions to existing dwellings, which were valued at $8,616,000.

Eleven permits were issued for residential accessory buildings and had a combined value of $1,102,333. There was also a significant amount of interest from business in the RM as 16 commercial permits, which had a combined value of $26,146,000, were issued in the past year.

The RM also issued six development permits for farm buildings in 2013, all of which were post frame buildings.

By comparison, in 2012 the RM issued 63 building permits. Twenty-nine of the permits were for residential single-family dwellings or additions to existing dwellings while the 18 permits for residential accessory buildings were valued at $1,142,635.

Again the commercial activity was strong, as the 16 permits for commercial buildings were valued at $25,028,850. Overall, the total value of development for 2012 was $32,755,396.

Combined with the City of Estevan's building permits, which as of November was over $50 million, there was almost $90 million worth of building permits issued in the Estevan area in 2013 alone.
