The Town of Assiniboia held their second annual Twinkle Tour on December 10-12 from 6-8 p.m. The event ran continuously from the Kin Hut. There were wheelchair accessible rides which could be arranged by calling the Assiniboia Recreation and Community Wellness Department. Also, Assiniboians had a selection of transportation choices to travel on as they viewed the glorious lights of Christmas.

People could have completed the tour by bus, horse drawn sleigh, or they might’ve ridden on the Kinsmen People Mover on Thursday. Because of the chillier weather this year in early December, the horses and the Kinsmen People Mover were scheduled to remain indoors until the event’s last shift on Thursday, December 12.

The Kinsmen also supported this event, which was conceived and organized by the Town of Assiniboia. Club members were enthusiastic about the general responses from those who attended the 2019 Twinkle Tour on Thursday night. “It’s been good. It’s snowing outside, there’s a good crowd and Santa and Mrs. Claus showed up,” a local Kinsmen member said.

“Mike Cayer came with his horse and wagon. People can ride on the People Mover. The Kinsmen bus has been driving around,” another Kinsmen member added.

When people voyaged through Assiniboia to view the lights of Christmas, they had the option of voting on their favourite homes from a total of 12 decorated houses in town. All of the participating houses for the tour were featured on a detailed map available at the Kin Hut. While they were waiting for rides in the Kin Hut, there were hot drinks and treats available. Also, Santa and Mrs. Claus were at the Kinsmen Hut to meet and converse with the children.

The People’s Choice 2019 winners for the Twinkle Tour were as follows: First place went to Dave and Kerri Martin. The second place was earned by Dallas Moneo, the first place winner of last year’s Twinkle Tour. Finally, the third position for this year’s Twinkle Tour went to Nathan and Jessica Rust.

When asked what motivated him to enter the Twinkle Tour competition, Dave Martin replied “I put lights up for my girls every year. I like seeing them smile.”
