City workers got busy removing the dike at Government Road on May 2, as the Souris River has peaked through Weyburn, according to officials.

City Director of Engineering Rene Richard said that the Souris River saw its peak during last weekend when Weyburn saw 14.4 millimetres of precipitation. The water level has dropped significantly since then.

"On Sunday morning it was at its highest level yet," said Richard. "Within a 24-hour period, it was down almost 10 inches."

Richard said that the City has removed the sandbags at the River Park and Fourth Street South dikes, but has decided to keep the dikes in place for now.

Richard said that it has been a long peak for the Souris River this year, forcing the City to keep up the dikes for nearly three weeks, but said that Weyburn has been pretty lucky having very little reports of flood damage within the city.
