The Bits and Pieces Quilting Club will shortly begin stitching and threading the year away.Based out of Sew and Sews in Carlyle, the quilting women have grown from a handful of women to a group of 28 ranging all the way from 23-year-olds to 90-year-olds."We meet every Monday evening," said Elsie Faber, Bits and Pieces president. "Having at least some knowledge in sewing is a must as it is quite difficult."In past years the group has made an abundance of quilts. Of those, quilts some were kept for personal use, while the majority were donated to charities, and given to the seniors homes."We make quilts, table runners and much more," explained Faber. "A few of us also get together on Tuesday afternoons to make a quilt together."Members of the group come from all over Southeast Saskatchewan and have become much like a family to each other."We meet up and we don't really gossip," explained Bev from Sew and Sews. "Sure we talk about our own lives, like our children and grandchildren but we aren't a town gossip group, we are a family."Everyone involved with the club is there because they share a passion and love for quilting, sewing and the community. Each month the group is given a theme or challenge, and completes a square revolving around that central idea. None of the squares however end up the same, as each member is creative and talented in their own way. "We sometimes run beginner classes, but at this point I don't have plans for that this year," said Faber. However anyone who does wish to learn can always go into Sew and Sews and get information on where classes are being held, as Bev is always in the know on these things.Anybody who wants to know more about this group can contact Elsie Faber at 453-2419 or walk into Sew and Sews and have a chat with Bev.
