The Family Place officially opened their Festival of Trees display and silent auction on Nov. 14. This is the 12th annual Festival of Trees, and this year they are in a new location, at the Weyburn Co-op Home Centre in the City Centre Mall.

The Festival of Trees will be on display from Nov. 14 to Nov. 24, with bidding open to all silent auction items during that time. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sundays from 12 noon to 5 p.m.
A special gala and live auction will close the Festival of Trees event on Thursday, Nov. 24. This year there are over 15 trees for the live auction.

"The 12th annual Festival of Trees is the Family Place's largest fundraising event of the year," said Kathy Helfrick, executive director of the Family Place. Businesses, organizations and individuals have donated trees, silent auction items, funds and volunteer time.

Another special event planned during the event is Santa's visit on Tuesday, Nov. 22, during the afternoon. During Santa's visit, pictures can be taken.

The Family Place is open year-round, running programs to improve the quality of life for children and families. Programming ranges from Smiles and Tears for mothers and newborns to preschool programming, to programs to help parents with potty training, bullying and other educational sessions.

The Family Place also offers community kitchens and their "Big Cook" program to assist parents in providing nutritious meals for their families. During the year, the Family Place raises funds through donations, birthday parties, catering and other activities to help cover the costs associated with the program.
