Carlyle Memorial Hall will be the venue to find many laughs and great food for the weekend of April 4 to April 6 with Cornerstone Theatre set to perform their annual dinner theatre with "Suite Surrender," written by Michael McKeever as the feature event.

Since 1985 the Cornerstone Theatre group has been delivering quality productions in Memorial Hall, and this year will see them deliver once again.

On Friday, April 4, Saturday, April 5, and Sunday, April 6, those in the area will be welcome to take in this year's production titled, "Suite Surrender," which was written by Michael McKeever.

The Observer had the opportunity to speak with the director, Diane Twietmeyer, about the play.

"It's very funny," Twietmeyer stated. "It's one of those things, I enjoyed reading it, but when you sit people down and start getting them to read parts, suddenly you realize how funny something is."

"It's got a lot of funny lines and funny side gags, some really good characters, and the cast is doing an awesome job of developing their characters."

The play is set in 1942, with two Hollywood divas and a legendary feud a lavish hotel in Palm Beach feels they are ready to mitigate the visit, that is until the two women are assigned to the same hotel room.

"The main characters are these two feuding divas, these grand ladies of stage and screen, and sort of the way I have them going at it is a Sophie Tucker meets Rita Hayworth kind of thing," Twietmeyer stated.

Debbie Bedecs and Colleen Easton have agreed to take on these roles, while their personal assistants will be played by David Slykhuis and Naomi Twietmeyer. The hotel's manager will be portrayed by Lane Easton, while a high society lady whose husband is on the hotel board is being taken on by Bertha Isleifson.

Rounding out the cast is Michael Logan and Jesse Twietmeyer as bellhops, along with Melissa Savill as a nosy reporter.

Logan and Savill are each rather new to Cornerstone and the theatre group is excited to welcome them to their world of acting and stage craft.

"We're going to have a lot of fun with costumes and the set, when we get around to building it it's a lot of fun: good laughs, good acting, and good comedy."

In addition to a night of laughs, the evening also boasts a dinner before the performance which will be provided by David and Shelley Slykhuis for the Friday and Saturday evening performances.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., supper will take place at 7 p.m., and the curtain will be raised at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $30 and can be found at The Pearl Boutique, which is located on the west side of Main Street across from Memorial Hall.

Tickets are also available for the 2 p.m. matinee showing on Sunday, April 6, for $15 at The Pearl.

Overall those at Cornerstone are excited to present another spring Dinner Theatre and are happy to announce one that will be filled with laughter and great acting.

"We're looking forward to another great production," Twietmeyer stated.
