A 20-year-old man from Manor escaped with only minor injuries when the truck he was driving struck a moving train and caused a derailment east of Oxbow Sunday night.

Carnduff RCMP received a report at 11 p.m. Sunday that a vehicle had struck a train adjacent to Highway 18 and caused 22 cars, all of which contained light crude oil, to derail.

According to the RCMP report, oil leaked from six of the tanks but neither the oil nor any of the rail cars made their way onto the highway. It's believed that there were no water sources in the area and the environmental impact from the leaked oil will be minimal.

Alcohol was reportedly not a factor in the accident and the driver was taken to the Oxbow Health Centre where he was kept overnight with non-life threatening injuries.

Carnduff RCMP and the Canadian Pacific Railway Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
