On Feb. 18 in Redvers at the public library from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and in Carlyle at the public library on Feb. 19 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. a free information session will be held by Jackie Dauvin concerning The Vial of Life.

The Vial of Life is a large pill bottle that contains information including medical allergies, current medications, any medical conditions, emergency contact information, and more. The vial is then stored in the fridge where it is safely kept. In the case EMS need to respond and someone is unable to provide this information it is easily located in the top part of the fridge.

A refrigerator magnet which says, The Vial of Life, is placed on the front of the fridge. EMS will look for this magnet when responding in order to have this vital information. For example EMS will be aware of important health concerns such as those with heart conditions that are not to have defibrillators used on them.

As Dauvin works with Supreme Ambulance she finds The Vial of Life as a perfect way to be able to inform emergency responders with information they may not have otherwise been able to get. The specific form, which Dauvin will have with her to be filled out during these sessions allow for this important information to be received quickly and in an organized manner.

"It helps cutting down time on the scene," Dauvin explained.

People may not be able to explain their medical histories or what they are taking for medications when emergency responders arrive. On top of this partners do not always have the answers to these questions either. They may not be aware of certain medical conditions, allergies, or medications being taken by the individual in need; so, The Vial of Life provides answers to these questions.

"I found out the United Church in Wawota has been doing this for about a year now and I know the Redvers and Carlyle area could benefit from it," Dauvin said.

Having this information recorded and easily accessed by EMS may lead to a life saved.
