A pair of Weyburn brothers are each facing several serious charges, including attempted murder against one and assault with a weapon against the other, following a violent domestic dispute on Jan. 28.

The Weyburn Police Service received a 911 call about an assault in progress at a city residence, and upon arriving found several people, some of them injured, including an adult male who needed first aid at the scene, and an adult woman with serious injuries; both were taken to the Weyburn General Hospital.

As a result of investigating the incident, police determined there was a dispute between a 58-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, during which the man attacked the woman, causing her serious injury. A 32-year-old man came to the aid of the woman, stopping the attack on her, and he then committed a serious assault on the other male.

As a result, Aaron Preston Katschke, 34, is facing charges of attempted murder, one count of assault, one count of being unlawfully at large and three breaches of probation.

Also, Jason Todd Katschke, 32, faces charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, four counts of breach of probation, and two counts of failing to attend court.

Aaron Katschke was released from hospital and held in custody until he appeared in provincial court on Feb. 1 and was remanded into custody for a 30-day psychiatric examination; he will reappear in Weyburn court on Tuesday, March 1.

Jason Katschke also appeared in court on Feb. 1 on his charges, and was remanded in custody until Thursday in Regina. He was released on Friday morning from custody on several conditions, and reappeared in court in Weyburn on Feb. 8.

At last report, the 58-year-old woman remained in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
