The Carlyle RCMP dealt with several calls from Thursday, April 5 to Thursday, April 12.
911
An individual was charged for misusing the 911 emergency phone number after two officers were sent to a home in the detachment area as the result of a request relayed via 911.
One call to 911 was the result of a four-year-old playing with a phone.
Assistance
Carlyle RCMP members assisted local EMS with an injured and intoxicated individual.
Alcohol-related offences
Carlyle RCMP responded to a call in which intoxicated individuals had damaged property at a residence. Constable Steven Sharpen says: “If you're drunk, just get home safely and don't cause problems. So many of these incidents escalate when alcohol is involved.”
A driver received a roadside suspension for driving under the influence of alcohol after being initially stopped for speeding by police. This motorist's vehicle was also towed.
A minor was fined $360 and will appear in court regarding an offence under the Liquor Act.
RCMP responded to a call reporting an impaired driver.
Assault
After being called to an assault involving two adult siblings, police referred members of the family to local counsellors and suggested one family member contact Social Services.
Police are investigating an assault involving a male and a female. The male was arrested and lodged in cells. This person also has an outstanding warrant.
Collisions/Traffic violations
The driver of a truck pulling a trailer was uninjured after his vehicle jack-knifed and landed in the ditch as the result of attempting to avoid a collision with a moose. This driver was uninjured, as airbags were deployed.
RCMP responded to a call from a concerned citizen who had narrowly avoided an accident with another driver. The caller was concerned that the other motorist had suffered an epileptic seizure while driving. Members located the driver concerned and found that this individual was driving without a licence. They continue to investigate.
An individual was charged with driving with undue care and attention.
An motorist will appear in court for driving while disqualified. This motorist was stopped by police on Hwy 9 south, near Carlyle.
Members issued several speeding tickets throughout this period, with fines reaching $344.
Drivers from throughout the detachment area were fined or given warnings for not stopping at posted intersections. The fine for this offence is $230.
Several individuals were found to be operating uninsured motor vehicles. The fine for this offence is $580.
Several vehicles have received inspection tickets and/or warnings for operating motor vehicles with inadequate headlamps, improper window tint and obstructed licence plates.
Drug offence
RCMP discovered an individual selling illegal drugs when they responded to the report of a fight. This incident is still under investigation.
Firearm Amnesty
Members picked up a firearm at an area residence at the request of the owner of the gun. When police arrived, they found the gun and ammunition was not stored safely. Police remind gun owners to store their firearms safely.
Harassing communications
RCMP spoke to three people regarding a situation involving unwanted text messages and unwelcome contact via social media. Constable Sharpen of the Carlyle detachment says: “If you're receiving messages you don't want, the first step is to block that person and remove them from your social media accounts, such as Facebook.”
Mental Health Act
RCMP provided assistance to an individual under the Mental Health Act.
Obstruction of justice
Two individuals within the detachment area were warned as the result of repeated violations of a no-contact order.
Theft
An individual was charged with shoplifting after stealing meat from a Carlyle grocery store with the intention of selling it. RCMP are still investigating.
The theft of a set of golf clubs from a shed was reported to RCMP.
A break and enter from an area residence in which items were taken from a garage is still under investigation by RCMP.
Trespassing
Members responded to a report of trespassing at a facility in the Carlyle area. Police investigated and found a male had entered the property and was found to be doing his laundry. No charges were laid.
Uttering threats
While responding to a 911 call from within the detachment area regarding threats being made via Facebook, members of the RCMP came upon intoxicated individuals and a possible assault.While attending to this matter, one member of the RCMP was attacked by a dog. No charges have been laid at this point, but this matter remains under investigation.
RCMP are investigating threats made by an individual in which this person repeatedly threatened another individual's person and property.
Warrants
Carlyle RCMP issued warrants to several individuals for failing to attend court.
Well-being check
Members conducted one well-being check within the detachment area during this period.
