From a provincial perspective, 2013 was a year of growth with the population reaching 1.1 million, said Weyburn Big Muddy MLA Dustin Duncan.
"That's definitely a highlight and it's indicative of the strong growth in our province," he said. "It's gratifying to see that growth, not that the government takes credit."
In his role as MLA for Weyburn, Big Muddy, Duncan said a few communities celebrated their centennials.
"Being able to celebrate centennials, and being able to do so in a time of optimism is pretty exciting," said Duncan.
The year 2013 was Duncan's first full term as Health Minister, a role he has enjoyed and found challenging.
"It's a lot busier and challenging, than expected. I like being in this role and am grateful I can be in a role where I can make an impact on government and citizens."
The construction of the rooftop heliport at the Regina General Hospital was a great addition and will aide STARS in getting patients to the hospital when timing is crucial.
"Being able to cut 30 minutes off transportation time for patients will be beneficial."
The government is spending a lot of money on infrastructure in the health sector to not only modernize the buildings, but the way health care is delivered in the province.
Locally, health care has been a challenge with not having enough doctors.
"People have been patient and there is a plan, plus the ability to house new doctors in the works," said Duncan.
By mid January, Duncan said Weyburn will see more doctors which will relieve the pressure on the current physicians.
