The Weyburn Comprehensive School held a virtual presentation of their activity awards on Monday evening, covering all extra-curricular activities at the school over the past year.
The school’s major awards were presented as follows.
The R.C. Smith Proficiency Award went to Arliss Sidloski, who also earned the top award for the performing arts at WCS, and the award as the top female athlete of the year.
The Tom Zandee Humanitarian Award went to Megan Ebel, and the George Pierce Award went to Ethan West.
The Bethel Trophy was awarded to Brett Bowler, and the top male athlete of the year was Blake Anderson.
The T.C. Douglas medals for the top averages in the school went to Abby Phair for the top female, and Brett Bowler for the top male. Bowler will also be the class valedictorian for the Class of 2020 virtual grad ceremonies on Saturday, June 27.
The Block W awards are presented based on the accumulated points a student has for extracurricular involvement at the Comp.
One Super Block W was awarded for having over 240 points, to Arliss Sidloski, who accumulated 388 points.
Block Ws for social events were awarded to Jayda Cameron, Keely O’Neill and Ross Van De Weyer, all in Grade 11, and all with 120 points.
Block Ws for athletics went to Jacob Butz (140 pts) and Zach Olson (120 pts), both in Grade 11, and the following from Grade 12: Blake Anderson (170 pts), Onello Bahingawan (142 pts), Erik Barsness (131 pts), Brett Bowler (115 pts), Chandler Dickie (115 pts) and Sydney Meyers (130 pts).
Comprehensive Block Ws were awarded to the following Grade 11 students: Krystalynn Lascelle (120 pts), Brynn Romanovitch (145 pts) and Gregg Wiens (158 pts), and the following Grade 12 students: Seth Diede (160 pts), Marcus Gregory (135 pts), Hunter Labbie (150 pts), Trisha Mariveles (158 pts) and Ethan West (140 pts).
The following Block Ws were awarded for Grade 9 students: Kimberly Balayar (114 pts), Owen Burdan (215 pts), Mitchell Cherpin (130 pts), Nina Deane (120 pts), Liam Evans (151 pts), Kallen Field (130 pts), Madison Gerry (102 pts), Jyler Goebel (185 pts), Bree Hagen (115 pts), Darius Jones (225 pts), Marcus Keating (126 pts), Piper McKinney (139 pts), Dominic Mejia (115 pts), Halena Paquet (110 pts), Kent Shumlich (105 pts), Erika Sinn (100 pts), Zoe Tichkowsky (135 pts) and Lindsay Van De Weyer (201 pts).
In the social awards, which includes music, drama and SRC awards, the following were presented.
From the senior jazz band, the MVP was Marcus Gregory, and the director’s award went to Seth Diede. For the RISE choir, the most valuable member was Onello Bahingawan, and the advisor’s award went to Abby Akins.
For the SRC, the gavel award went to Megan Ebel and Maya Knipfel; the “Heart of the SRC” went to Megan Ebel; the SRC Spirit Award went to Jenai Lokken; and the treasurer’s gift went to Kelsi Shipley.
For the junior drama-musical, the MVP was Nina Deane, and the advisor’s award went to Owen Burdan. For the junior jazz band, the MVP was Jyler Goebel, and the advisor’s award went to Darius Jones. From the junior choir, the MVP award went to Lindsay Van De Weyer, and the advisor’s award to Zoe Tichkowsky.
The athletic awards were presented as follows:
For senior girls basketball, the MVP was Arliss Sidloski, and the coach’s award went to Brynn Romanovitch.
For the junior girls basketball A team, the MVP was Ella Morken, and the coach’s award went to Carlee Wade. For the junior girls basketball B team, the MVP was Amy Swayze, and the coach’s award went to Brinlee Klapak and Callie Dammann.
For senior boys basketball, the MVP was Amiel Verdejo, and the coach’s award went to Zachary Olson. For intermediate boys basketball, the MVP was Ben Manning, and the coach’s award went to Austin Knupp.
For the junior boys basketball A team, the MVP was Conner Kerr, and the coach’s award went to Owen Istace. For the junior boys B and C teams, the MVP was Justin Whitrow, and the coach’s award went to Marek Keslering.
For cheer, the MVP was Rachel Keith, and the coaches award went to Piper McKinney. For hip hop, the MVP was Onello Bahingawan, and the coaches award went to Trisha Mariveles, while in jazz dance, the MVP was Lauryn Barsness and the coaches award went to Darby Croal.
For junior cheer, the MVP was Brooke Verbeurgt, and the coaches award went to Katie Pelchat.
For senior cross-country, the MVP was Arliss Sidloski, and the coaches award went to Emma Zieglgansberger. In junior cross-country, the MVP was Mason Sidloski, and the coaches award went to Kieran Hamel.
For senior boys curling, the MVP Emil Porth Award went to Hunter Labbie, and the coaches award went to Ty Nikolejsin. In senior mixed curling, the MVP was Dylan Birnie, and the coach’s award went to Trey Sandiford.
For junior boys curling, the MVP was Darius Jones, and the coach’s award went to Jeremy Symes.
In football, the MVP Allen Moffat Award went to Brett Bowler, and the Al Watson Award went to Ethan West.
For the Comp golf team, the MVP was Darien Herlick, and the coach’s award went to Lucas Hughes.
In girls soccer, the MVP was Arliss Sidloski, and the coaches award went to Kylie Vande Woestyne. In boys soccer, the MVP was Jun Lee, and the coaches award went to Markus Telizki.
For senior girls volleyball, the MVP was Chandler Dickie, and the coach’s award went to Jamie Labbie. For intermediate girls volleyball, the MVP was Jaylynn Haupstein, and the coach’s award went to Mya Folk.
For the junior girls volleyball A team, the MVP was Bree Hagen, and the coach’s award went to Grace Pederson. For the junior girls B team, the MVP was Kallen Field, and the coach’s award went to Brinlee Klapak. For the junior girls C team, the MVP was Mizzi Macute, and the coach’s award went to Mykelle Doud.
For the senior boys volleyball team, the MVP was Blake Anderson, and the coaches award went to Rohan Haupstein.
For the intermediate boys volleyball, the MVP was Mitchell Cherpin, and the coaches award went to Tre Thompson. For junior boys volleyball, the MVP was Keaton Husband, and the coaches award went to Rudi Telizki.
In wrestling, the male MVP was Eric Fleming, and the female MVP was Ember Schira.
