Weyburn Concert Series ready for another season

Weyburn Concert Series is looking forward to an exciting and varied 2011-2012 season with a line-up that offers seven concerts encompassing a wide variety of entertainment genres.

Weyburn Concert Series is looking forward to an exciting and varied 2011-2012 season with a line-up that offers seven concerts encompassing a wide variety of entertainment genres. All concerts will be held in the Weyburn Comprehensive Cafetorium and will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Kicking off the season will be The Irish Descendants who will be performing on Wednesday, September 14. The Irish Descendant have been a mainstay in Canadian music since being formed in Newfoundland in1990. They have performed more than 4000 shows worldwide, and have also released a number of albums. Lilting ballads, and toe-tapping reels presented with humour and energy have made them a popular attraction both at home and abroad.

On Monday, October 3, we will be in for a treat when Weyburn's own Chelsea Woodard will be the opening act for Il Primo. Chelsea is a 17 year-old student at the Weyburn Comprehensive School who divides her passion for singing and performing between musical theatre and opera. Il Primo is an exciting and popular trio in the tradition of The Three Tenors, but with a twist. Their rich full sound will include a diverse selection of famous arias as well as popular and traditional songs.

The Nylons will be performing in Weyburn on Monday, November 28. Known for their flawless a cappella sound, dazzling harmonies and smooth sophisticated arrangements, this group has become a true international success story. The Nylons immense appeal has taken them across North America, Europe, Australia, China and Japan.

Alexander Sevastian will make his appearance on Monday, February 13, 2012. You will be taken on an extraordinary adventure as you listen to his impeccable arrangements played on an accordion. His talent and engaging rapport with the audience is sure to bring down the house.

Coveted Canadian Country Music Award for Rising Star and Best Country Award Winner Shane Yellowbird will be appearing at the Weyburn Comprehensive on Wednesday, April 18. His debut album "Life is Calling My Name" had four top ten radio singles and videos, contributing to his receiving the Aboriginal Entertainer Award at the Aboriginal People's Choice Awards.

The Saskatoon Children's Choir will conclude the Weyburn 2011-2012 Series. The date for this concert is still being negotiated and will be announced at a later date. The Children's Choir was founded in 1996. Since that time they have developed a reputation for their musical sound and creative spirit. They will perform a wide variety of choral compositions with an emphasis on classical, folk and Canadian works.

Season tickets for the Weyburn Concert Series are still available and can be purchased at Superior Office Products or by phoning 842-2444. Tickets not used at a previous concert may be used at any remaining concert, so come and bring a friend!
