Representatives of Cenovus Energy, Apache Canada, City of Weyburn, South East Regional Economic Development Authority (SEREDA) and Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC), celebrated the launch of the Weyburn Energy Innovation Centre this week.

The Weyburn Energy Innovation Centre is a hands-on interactive space, located on the upper level of City Hall, for the residents of Weyburn as well as visitors to Weyburn to stop in at their leisure. The Centre enables visitors to understand what the major energy companies are doing in the community and what the world-leading and world's largest research project into the monitoring and storage of CO2 has accomplished over the last 11 years.

The partners in the project feel it is important for the public to have information on oilfield activities in the region, and on the world-leading research occurring at Weyburn through the IEAGHG Weyburn-Midale CO2 Monitoring and Storage Project. Weyburn is now considered a world class hub of industry leading oilfield companies and our community is thriving as a result.

The Weyburn Energy Innovation Centre is open during regular City Hall hours, and is open to the public. Private tours are available for businesses on the periphery of the Oil & Gas industry, as well as students researching the industry for school projects. Though we know the oilfield has created a boom in our local economy, many of us don't know much about the processes. This Centre is a first step in helping the community to gain awareness of and to participate in celebrating our local culture.
