Members of the province's protective services personnel were awarded with the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal on June 11, presented by Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield and Provincial Secretary Wayne Elhard.

George Kerr of the Weyburn Fire Department received a Protective Services Medal, and Fire Chief Steve Debienne was in attendance for the presentation.

The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 years or more of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property.

"These recipients have affected for the better the lives of every single man, woman and child in this province. They represent a long tradition of dedication, excellence and often fearlessness," said Elhard.

Established in 2003, the Protective Services Medal is administered by the Saskatchewan Protocol Office in cooperation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
