Weyburn police arrest man on weapon, threats

During the week of July 1-7, the Weyburn Police Service was quite busy with 119 calls for service. A local adult male was arrested for assault with a weapon, threatening police and failing to stop for police.

A local adult male was arrested for assault with a weapon, threatening police and failing to stop for police. A local female youth was arrested for breaching her release conditions and resisting arrest. Police members also assisted with a local seizure of narcotics and firearms and arrests of the suspects.

A theft from a motor vehicle was reported on July 1; the matter is under investigation. Residents are reminded to keep their doors locked and not to leave valuables in the vehicle.

There was a call of a child that fell off a ride at the fair. The matter is being investigated by provincial inspectors.

There was also a call of children being left alone at home on July 1. The matter was investigated and determined to be unfounded.

Police received a call of a break and enter to a local school on July 2. The matter is under investigation.

There was a call of a concern for a safety of a female who has a family member living with her. The matter was resolved.

Police members assisted with the fair parade on July 2.

A concerned mother contacted police as she was worried about her daughter and addiction issues. Proper referrals were made.

Police received a complaint from concerned parents about their missing son on July 3, and he was located a short time later.

After a report of a motor vehicle accident on July 4, a Manitoba male was arrested and charged with driving while over .08.

After receiving a call regarding a disturbance at a local business on July 4, a Weyburn male was arrested and charged with threatening police officers, failing to stop for police and assault with a weapon. The male was held in custody.

A call was received regarding a domestic dispute between a husband and wife on July 5. Police attended and the matter was mediated.

A complaint was received regarding graffiti being sprayed in the city on July 5. The matter is under investigation.

Police were called to a motor vehicle accident on July 5, and one driver was charged with leaving a stop sign before safe.

As a result of an investigation, a Weyburn male was arrested and charged with breaching probation conditions and possessing marijuana on July 6. A Weyburn female young person was arrested and charged with breaching conditions and resisting arrest.

Police received a theft report where a silver scooter with red wheels was taken from a resident's back yard on June 30. The matter is under investigation.

During the early hours of June 24, a 22-year-old woman reported that someone threw an object through her front residence window. The matter is under investigation.

At approximately 4:16 p.m. on June 24, a grey Honda Civic was headed east bound on Coteau Avenue and was struck by a northbound vehicle on Eighth Street who had failed to yield at the intersection. The unknown driver and vehicle failed to remain at the scene of the accident and did not report matters to police.

Police attended to a local service station after male drove away without paying for his gas. The matter is under investigation.

Between June 17-21, Haig School had an iPad in a black Otterbox go missing.

While on patrol this week, Police located an individual riding a dirt bike on city property. The driver was warned about bylaw 80-1386 that prohibits this activity.

On June 25, police received a hit and run report which had occurred between 9:30 and 11:15 p.m. A grey Jeep was parked downtown by the movie theatre and an unknown vehicle struck it causing front end damage to the Jeep. The suspect vehicle fled the scene. Anyone with information about who is responsible for this incident is encouraged to contact the police.

Police were called to domestic dispute between a 47-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man on June 26. Police kept the peace between the two and the male found alternate accommodations.

Just before 11:30 p.m. on June 26, police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Park Avenue where a grey car was struck from behind by a red truck causing it to spin into a parked vehicle. Police are investigating the accident.

Over the last few months, police have received reports of phone scams. Recently, a local individual received a call from an unknown male who stated that their relatives are in jail and they required to pay money for bail. They tried to encourage the individual to make payment or supply credit card information.These types of calls are fraudulent. Police are reminding members of the public not to provide these callers with any money or personal identification.
A 61-year-old local man was charged with assaulting his 32-year-old daughter on June 27 after reports were made that he twisted her arm and back-handed her across her forehead. His first court appearance is set for later this month.

A mischief report was received on June 28 after the driver side mirror of the complainant's vehicle was smashed while his vehicle was parked at a local school. Anyone with information about this is encouraged to contact the Weyburn Police Service.

Police responded to a call of an attempted break-and-enter when a 48-year-old man tried to gain entry to a local residence on June 28.Police attended and found the male extremely intoxicated. Police took the compliant male to his residence and left him in the care of his spouse, no charges will be laid.

Police received reports from eight citizens who had their vehicles entered, though none were damaged. Incidents occurred on Duke Street, Eaglesham Avenue, 17th Street, and Ash Drive. Items reported missing are cigarettes, Oakley sunglasses, Nike runners, two purses, Bokker knife with Damascus blade, Pentax binoculars, a Winners gift card, wallets, loose change and cash. Some citizens were not missing anything from the entry. Incidents are still under investigation.

Police received a mischief report on June 28 from an individual who resides on Eaglesham Avenue that someone knocked over their planters and broke garden lights. Anyone with information about this is asked to contact the police.
