Weyburn police arrest six for thefts from vehicles

During the past two weeks, the Weyburn Police Service have received numerous complaints about thefts from motor vehicles in all areas of the city.

During the past two weeks, the Weyburn Police Service have received numerous complaints about thefts from motor vehicles in all areas of the city. Police would like to thank the public that called in when they noticed persons acting suspicious in their neighborhoods. As a result of police investigations and public assistance, six people are facing 45 charges. All of them will be appearing in court later this month.

City police attended to the Weyburn hospital in regards to an assault on May 6. Investigation revealed that the victim, an 11-year -old male, was playing in the 900 block of Park Avenue when he was struck in the head with a pellet from a pellet gun. The youth had minor injuries. Investigation is ongoing.

On May 5, a motor vehicle was taken without consent from a driveway in the 600 block of Staveley Crescent. The owner had left his keys in the vehicle overnight. In the morning someone had moved the vehicle further down the street. Police are still investigating.

On May 5 at 11:25 a.m., police attended with the Fire Department to a business on Sims Avenue. An odor similar to natural gas was in the store. SaskEnergy also attended and determined the odor was from the sewer.

Police are investigating a theft complaint that occurred in the 1100 block of Park Ave. On May 3 an unknown person entered a garden shed and stole three different types of saws and accessories. Anyone with information is asked to contact the city police or Crimestoppers.

Police attended to a two motor vehicle accident in the 10 block of Fourth Street on May 4. Investigation revealed that a 16-year-old female was traveling east in an alley and attempted a turn onto Fourth St. without yielding to an oncoming car. There were no injuries and the 16-year-old driver was charged with failure to yield right of way.

Police and Fire were dispatched to a fire in an alley in the 10 block of 18th Street on May 4. At approximately 4:30 p.m., two male youths were playing with matches and a torch when some plastic toys caught on fire. Police and Fire are having the two youths attend a Fire Awareness Program that is put on by the Fire Department.

Police attended a report of a noisy party in the 1800 block of 18th Street on May 4. As a result, a 17-year-old female was charged disturbing the peace by having a noisy party.

On May 1 at approximately 1 am, city police were called to a motor vehicle accident in the 400 block of Second street. Investigation revealed a 61-year-old man from Weyburn lost control of his truck and struck three trees before stopping. Damage to the truck was extensive. The male faces charges of impaired driving and refusal of a breath test. He will be making a court appearance later this month.

Police received 125 requests for assistance in the past week.
