The Weyburn Police Service assisted the RCMP and emergency services in dealing with a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred 21 km east of Weyburn on Highway 13 on Dec. 11. The tragic accident took the lives of two young Weyburn residents.
Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on a business area service road on Dec. 11. The damage to both vehicles was minimal, and the drivers were directed to insurance to report the accident.
City police received a report of a hit and run accident on Dec. 11. The damage was minimal, and the investigation is ongoing.
On Dec. 8, police responded to a complaint of person passed out at the wheel of their vehicle while stopped at a stop sign. A 38-year-old male was found at the wheel, and subsequently arrested for impaired driving. After providing breath samples he was also charged with driving over .08. He appeared in court on Dec. 18 to answer to the charges.
Police attended to an accident involving a semi truck and an SUV at the intersection of Queen Street and Highway 39 on Dec. 9. There were no injuries, but one vehicle needed to be towed from the scene. As well the fire department attended to deal with a diesel fuel leak. One driver was charged for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.
City police dealt with a complaint of harassing text messages on Dec. 10. The messages did not support any criminal action but were bothersome to the recipient. The sender of the messages was spoken to by the police and advised to stop sending any more messages to the complainant.
In the afternoon of Dec. 10, police investigated another complaint of inappropriate messages being sent from an unknown individual. The content of the information of the messages was investigated and any criminal behavior around the information was not substantiated. After police investigated they were able to find out the identity of the person who sent the messages. They have been spoken to by the police as well.
On Dec. 15 in the afternoon, police dealt with a domestic conflict over the exchange of children. There were allegations of inappropriate behavior during the exchange of children. Police assisted to keep the peace and ensure compliance with the exchange. The matter is still under investigation to determine if any further police action is required.
City police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver coming into Weyburn from the south on Dec. 16. Police located the vehicle and spoke to the driver. The driver, who had not been drinking, was trying to allow another aggressive driver to pass and kept pulling over to allow them to pass. There was no further police action required. Police attended to the Weyburn Comprehensive school on Dec. 8 to assist with traffic control and parking. The Comp school was hosting "Sun Country Kids Club" Santa day.
City police dealt with a child custody family dispute matter on Dec. 8. The parents were advised of what actions were available to them in dealing with their differences around custody and access of the their child.
Police were called to a local hotel early on Dec. 9 as an intoxicated male was passed out in the hallway. The man was taken into custody and lodged in cells until sober.
Police attended to Crescent Point Place after a report that a fight was going to take place outside. Police spoke to a couple individuals outside prior to any altercation taking place. All of the potential combatants were sent their separate ways.
Police received a complaint of an erratic driver on the highway on Dec. 12. The vehicle was located at a local business and the driver spoken to. The driver, who was over-tired, was advised to no longer operate a vehicle until they were able to get some sleep.
City police responded to a domestic conflict on Dec. 13. One person in the relationship was making unwanted, continual contact with other. Police spoke to both parties and were advised to stop the harassing behavior.
Police attended to an accident at Canada Post on Dec. 13, where a vehicle was left in drive when the driver exited the vehicle. The vehicle moved ahead and collided with the building. Police continue to investigate the incident.
The Weyburn Police Service dealt with a family in conflict on Dec. 13 and 14.
With the assistance of Victim Service and outside agencies, the families were eventually relocated to another jurisdiction to be with supportive family members that resided there.
Police attended to a report of a fight outside a local drinking establishment on Dec. 15. On arrival there were no fights but an extremely large group congregated outside. Police stayed until the group had dispersed to avoid any potential conflict occurring.
Meantime, a report from the Prince Albert police indicated a Weyburn man, 22, was charged after police received a report that a woman and her baby were doused with alcohol.
A 911 call came in about an assault in progress, and police responded, and found a Weyburn man doing damage inside the house; at one point he had allegedly poured alcohol over his ex-girlfriend and a one-month old baby. No one was injured, and the man was arrested and faces two charges of assault. He was released with a court date set for Dec. 20.
