Weyburn police look into thefts, several disturbances

The Weyburn Police Service received 78 calls for assistance over the past week, including thefts, disturbances and drunk drivers. On Dec. 13, city police were called in to investigate a missing deposit bag from a local business.

The same day, police were called to a disturbance in the area of Railway Avenue and Third Street. Police found a Weyburn male damaging a vehicle in the parking lot. The male was arrested and charged with tampering with a motor vehicle.

A store in the 100 block of First Street called police on the morning of Dec. 16 in regards to a shoplifter. Police found a 13-year-old female who was caught taking items from the store.

Police were called to a residence on South Hill on Friday. Two young females claimed that while they were out walking a male chased them. No person was found to match the description given to police and the matter is being investigated.

A 20 year old Alberta man will be making a court appearance in Weyburn in early January following a traffic stop during the early morning hours of Saturday. Due to the accused driving actions, police had the accused provide breath samples to which readings over .08 were obtained. The accused was charged with driving while over .08 and impaired driving.

Police received a call of a male causing a disturbance outside an establishment at 2:40 am on Saturday. A 22-year-old Weyburn man under the influence was wanting to fight with other persons; he was arrested for being drunk in public and causing a disturbance, and was placed in cells until sober.

City police attended a disturbance at a hotel on Sunday. Investigation found that a common-law couple had a dispute and a physical confrontation ensued. One of the individuals was removed from the hotel and no charges were laid.
