Two members of the Weyburn Police Service were among 33 recipients of the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal awarded by Lieutenant Governor Gordon Barnhart at Government House on Wednesday.

Sgt. Trever Hughes and Const. Rodney Stafford were both presented with the medals in an afternoon ceremony with the Lieutenant Governor and Provincial Secretary Donna Harpauer.

The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 years or more of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property.

"These men and women receiving this medal today have spent their careers ensuring the safety and security of the people of Saskatchewan. Their actions have had a profound impact on the people of this province, securing our communities and protecting that which we hold dear," said Harpauer.

Established in 2003, the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal is administered by the Saskatchewan Protocol Office in close cooperation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
