Weyburn Police say that over the past weeks and months there have been a number of vehicles stolen from within the city and the surrounding area.
In all cases where the vehicles had been recovered, keys were left in the vehicles with the doors unlocked.
Police urge people to take proper steps to secure their property.
These are primarily crimes of opportunity and if a vehicle is locked without keys in it the culprits simply pass on to the next easy target.
On December 29, the police were called to a local bar where two females were involved in some sort of physical altercation. As a result a 30-year-old female was taken to the hospital by friends. The matter is still under investigation and charges are possible against both parties.
On December 27 while on routine patrol the police observed a youth in a vehicle. The youth was known to be on court-ordered conditions. The 16-year-old male youth was found to be in breach of two of the conditions and was arrested. He will be making a court appearance in the new year.
The police were called to a report of a fight at a local pub on December 27. The altercation was over prior to the arrival of the police. The identity of the people involved could not be determined.
Also on December 27, the police responded to a domestic dispute between family members. A 36-year-old male was escorted from the residence and agreed not to return. No charges are pending.
The police are investigating three reports of the theft of motor vehicles. Two of the three vehicles have been recovered. The third vehicle has Saskatchewan plate 669 IZG and is still outstanding. All three thefts are believed to be related. The investigation is ongoing.
On December 26, the police received a report of a homeowner using a quad to push snow onto the street. Under the provisions of the Weyburn Bylaws snow cannot be pushed onto the street from a private residence or sidewalk.
A 37-year-old local male was charged with driving over .08 as a result of a traffic stop on December 24. The male was also in possession of a small amount of marihuana. He will be making a court appearance in the new year.
On December 24, a vehicle parked in the 400 Block of 2nd Street N was vandalized by being scratched with an object. There are no suspects. Anyone who may information on this is urged to contact the police or to call Crime Stoppers.
The police were dispatched to a report of an intoxicated male standing on the highway on December 24. The patrol located a 25-year-old intoxicated male who was given a ride to his residence.
On December 23, while on routine patrol a vehicle was observed to be doing donuts in the Comp School parking lot. A 16-year-old male driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act.
