A day promoting women's health is to be held on May 5. The day will be filled with important information women need to know. It will be held at Kenosee Inn, located in Moose Mountain Provincial Park.

Wanda Miller, Regional Director of Primary Health in the Sun Country Health Region stated; "NP's, nurse practitioners, recognized women's health needs across the region. They realized women are looking for information and have taken this opportunity to organize a women's health day based on these needs."

Jeannie Daku, nurse practitioner, has been in the area for four and a half years, and was one of the NP's who helped to plan the day. Since being here, many of her patients are women and have had concerns regarding perimenopause and its symptoms.

Along with women in the community and the other NP's in the region they put their heads together and decided to plan out a day, open to any woman who wants to come and learn.

"We saw a need and wanted to meet it and this is one little way to do so." said Daku.

The day will begin at 8:30a.m., with registration, and end at 3p.m. Following registration the day will begin with a firsthand account of depression. A coffee break with booths set up on various topics will follow for participants to wander through.

Guest speaker Dr. Vicki Holmes from Saskatoon will then address the crowd. Lunch will be included, so it is necessary to RSVP by April 30. Following lunch a physiotherapist will speak about such things as Kegel exercises. Ending the day is a comical sketch concerning menopause.

Dr. Holmes, a physician and medical director of Women's Mid-Life Health Centre in Saskatoon, is going to address three of her main areas of study. These being Perimenopause (the transition one's body goes through before menopause), Menopause, and Bone Health. These are three extremely important topics for women and an understanding of them is important for remaining healthy.

"She is a great speaker that I'm very excited to hear from." Daku stated.

The day ultimately seeks to better inform women of different ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to provide an understanding of the unique ways women's bodies work. It is important to understand the changes that your body will go through and the different ways to deal with them.

"I am so excited for the day. They're big issues that need to be addressed and this is a great way to do that." Daku exclaimed.

This day of information is free! It is a great day to socialize with other women, to learn, and to enjoy. Possibly to even take home one of the door prizes being given away. It is strongly requested that you RSVP by April 30 as they will be providing lunch. They absolutely must know how many will be there because of this. Please do so either through email, zoe.norman@schr.sk.ca, or by calling (306) 842 8722.
