This year the Carlyle Fire Department has decided to begin hosting its annual Raise the Roof Golf Tournament. It will be held on Saturday, July 28.The decision came as a great way to fundraise for the volunteer, non-profit organization that is extremely important for the area. Safety and security offered by these trained individuals is something that is greatly appreciated.

This year the funds raised from the tournament will go towards a multipurpose building, which will be built next to the fire hall. This new building will act as a training centre, office, and conference room as they have nothing to facilitate this need at the moment.

"With firefighting there is always something to learn: hazmat, fire prevention, extra training is always needed and continuous training is important. We have nowhere to really do that right now. We want to build this to house our needs, but it will also be available for other community events or training. It's intended as a multipurpose building not just for fire training." Trent Lee, Fire Chief, stated.

The building will be used for training by the Carlyle Fire Department, but they hope to include the fire departments of surrounding towns as well. The building would provide a great facility to keep all firefighters in the area experienced and prepared.

The 1st Annual Firefighters Golf Tournament will be held at the Carlyle Golf and Country Club. The game will be a four-man best ball format with lots of prizes to be won. There will be prizes for various bests throughout the day. A Chinese auction will also be set up for both golfers and the public to partake in.

Registration for the event can be done through calling the Carlyle golf course at 453-6344 or registering the morning of the tournament. Registration that day will start at 9 a.m. and the tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Register soon as there are only around 90 spots available for golfers.

For $100 a person is able to register for a number of prizes offered, 18 holes of golf, and a delicious rib-eye steak supper with all the trimmings. Rental carts for the day are not included with the registration, but will be available through the golf course. If you do not register with a team then a placement will be found for you on one in need of an extra player.

There are great prizes available for golfers including a 50" flat screen TV, a Keurig donated by Champion Technology, two Roughrider Flex Packs donated by Carlyle Pharmasave, a sightseeing tour donated by Sunrise Aviation, an e-reader and much more.

Hole sponsors include Ron's Work Wear and TPZ who have donated fantastic prizes to the tournament as well.

If uninterested in golfing, but would still like to support the fire department supper is available for everyone. At $20 the steak supper is open to all and will be hosted at the Carlyle Curling Rink, which is located at the golf course. It will be served around 5:30 p.m. and is sure to be a tasty treat.

They have had great support from various companies thus far, both financially and through the donation of door prizes, as well as the items for the Chinese auction. If anyone else, businesses or individuals would like to make donations or volunteer their time to help that day contact Lee or another firefighter on the Carlyle team.
