Beavers hire Jon Neuberger as new marketing manager

The Weyburn Beavers baseball club announced that Jon Neuberger, a Weyburn product and four-year veteran of the team, will be joining their staff in a newly-created position as marketing manager.

"Jon is a member of the Neuberger family whose name has long been synonymous with ball in the Weyburn area," said Garnet Hansen, president of the Weyburn Beavers executive.

"He's in the process of completing a couple of classes to finish off his degree in marketing, so he was a natural choice for the position," added Hansen. "Jon is everything we were looking for to fill the position - a familiar name and face in the community with the required educational background and youthful enthusiasm."

In the last three years, the Beavers have made the first round of the Western Major Baseball League (WMBL) playoffs. Last year, they were defeated by the Regina Red Sox.

"We knew we needed to change a few things to get to the next level," said Hansen. "Our first priority was the coaching situation and we addressed that earlier with the hiring of head coach Phil Curtis."
"Now bringing Jon on board is going to address an equally important role of making sure the club has the operating budget to compete with the clubs at the next level," said Hansen.

The Weyburn Beavers have played in the WMBL since 2002, and Hansen noted the support from Weyburn and area fans and the business community. "We want different results, and needed to change some things," said Hansen.

"Having people like Jon who grew up here and knows what our ball club brings to the community is a tremendous asset and is going to help us in our goal of bringing a WMBL championship to Weyburn."

The Beavers will start their 2013 season in May, with an home game in Swift Current on Thursday, May 31. Their first away game will be Saturday, June 2 against Melville.
