Mondays and Fridays at the Carlyle Skating Arena are busy afternoons as all the skaters and parents arrive for skating lessons. The club has 30 skaters in the CanSkate and Bridging program and 11 skaters in the STARSkate program. Coach Dawn Dyer is kept busy ensuring that all skaters get their required lessons and does an excellent job with the skaters; our club is very fortunate to have both her and the help of 10 program assistants who are out on the ice during CanSkate helping our younger skaters practice the many skills that they are working on.

The STARSkaters have been busy these past few months with competitions and we are all so proud of their accomplishments!! It is so rewarding to see all of the skater's hard work pay off.

We had one skater competing at the Winnipeg Competition this past November, Grace Smyth, who received a gold medal for her Sr. Silver Interpretive Program and placed 5th Sr. Silver Free Skate.

On December 12, 2012 Carlyle Skating Club hosted a Mini Test Day for STARSkaters. On this day we had three skaters attend and pass all of their tests! Halle Doty - Junior Bronze Free skate Program, Anna Doty - Fiesta Tango and Ashley Weber - Dutch Waltz.

We had 13 skaters participate in Virden Competition held January 5 & 6, 2013: Tiana Delalleau, Ashley Foster, Tarris Valentine and Payton Spry from CanSkate. Anna Doty, Katie Rowley, Brittany Rowe, Kyla Fischer, Mackenzie Valentine, Halle Doty, Grace Smyth as well as Cassidy and Ashley Weber from the STARSkate program. We are so proud of the skaters bringing home a total of 23 medals!! A huge congratulations to Kyla Fischer and Grace Smyth who both WON their spins and Free Skate event, bringing home two gold medals each!! As well our four CanSkaters (Tiana Dellaleau, Ashley Foster, Payton Spry and Tarris Valentine) who also WON their team event bringing home a gold medal! They all worked really hard preparing for this event and did a great job representing our club.

More competitions are on the agenda for our skaters; we have four skaters (Kyla Fischer, Cassidy Weber, Halle Doty and Grace Smyth) attending the provincial STARSkate Championships in Humboldt on Jan. 18-20, 2013. Good Luck to each and every skater.

As well the Carlyle Skating Club will be hosting a Regional Test Day on January 27 and 28, 2013. This is a major event for our club as skaters from other clubs are invited to our test day, and in return our skaters are invited to test days at other clubs. Holding a test day is a lot of work, but it is well worth the effort given the smiles on the skaters' faces after they have passed a Skate Canada test.

Not to be overlooked our CanSkaters have also been enjoying an exciting skating season. With the circuits, stations, and fast zone all set up the skaters are actively engaged in the CanSkate program and are having lots of fun. The way they are flying around the ice makes it hard to believe that some of them couldn't even stand up when we started in October! Adding to the fun for the skaters we have included some theme days to our schedule; so far the kids have had jersey day, pajama day, favourite colour day and Christmas day where Santa even strapped on his skates and joined the kids on the ice!

The Skating Club has also started planning for its year end Ice Show which is scheduled for March 24, 2013. Parents are busy finding costumes, our coach is choreographing routines for all the skaters and with the help of the board members, and parent volunteers our Fundraising Coordinator, Lindsey Spry is arranging for guest skaters, getting decorations ready for the rink and all of the other details involved in making sure our carnival is a huge success.
