The perfect come-around, the tap-back, the in-off to the button and the angle raise to count one...these were the shots that teams at the Brier in Saskatoon were making last week, but teams at the Carlyle Curling Club were also making these kinds of shots when twelve rinks took part in the annual 49'ers bonspiel March 5, 6 & 7. Local rinks plus teams from Kipling, Arcola, Whitewood and Alameda enjoyed three days of curling. Some games were close, some were lopsided, there were some "called" shots and some "not called" shots, but every end saw lots of rock in play, and with a house like that, you never know what might happen and that makes it exciting for everyone!!

The Carlyle Legion did a wonderful job of providing lunches all three days, and on Wednesday evening curlers and guests enjoyed a delicious A&W chicken supper and everyone was hoping to have the lucky ticket number for the raffle prizes.

Larry Chapman and his rink from Arcola were presented with the Tom Dovell Millennium trophy as winners of the A Event. They defeated Melvin Freitag and his rink in an extra end in the final game. Third in the event went to Bruce McCarthy and fourth to Jerry Weber of Arcola.

The B Event was won by Dave Olson and his team from Kipling who defeated the Kent Holland foursome, with third place going to Lorne Perry of Arcola and fourth to Ray Lothian.

The Shirley Warner rink of Alameda defeated Willie Rapp of Kipling in the C Event final. Third went to Tom Ede of Whitewood and fourth to Frank Faber.

The 49'ers curling season is coming to a close and everyone will soon be looking forward to the arrival of spring and enjoying a great summer!!
