A tournament was held Saturday at the Carlyle Golf Course to support the Carlyle Cougars hockey team

The Carlyle Golf Course was filled with golfers on Saturday as the Carlyle Cougars hockey team held a golf tournament to raise funds for their team’s next season and for the Carlyle Minor Hockey program as well.

The golf tournament, which started around 11 a.m., included players from all over the community as well as some of the hockey team members.

The event was sponsored by several organizations within the community, with the prizes and food also provided by sponsors.

Clayton Geiger, one of the event organizers, explained that this event wasn’t just important because it would raise funds. When asked why this event was significant, he said, “I’d have to say just to get everyone together after everyone’s been through … the last year and a half of COVID, and kinda hopefully kickstarting our season … and just to have some fun.”

Overall, the event went well, with everyone having a good time. However, as Geiger explained, the team was also very thankful to the sponsors who supported the event, which was only possible because organizations and people within the community pulled together and sponsored it.

“Without donations and other people involved, we can never ever have a tournament, so we’re just lucky we have a good community that has a lot of good businesses that are willing to do that.”
