The Carlyle Cougar Senior Girls Volleyball Team hosted their annual invitational tournament. Teams from Oxbow, Stoughton, Carnduff, Manor/Wawota, and Lampman attended the two-day event.

The round robin style tournament saw each team meet once to determine who would be in the final. The team placing first automatically reaching the gold medal match, while the second and third placing teams in round robin had to fight in a playoff game to reach the final round.

Through tough game play each team did their best to come out on top. In the end the team created of players from Manor and Wawota would come up against the hometown hosts in the final match. Through much hard work and long rallies the two teams traded points throughout; but, in the end there was only one team that could claim victory. The Carlyle Cougars came out in first following the two final sets of the tournament.

During round robin action the coaches voted on a Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. Many tied for second, but the coaches noticed something special about one particular player over all the others. Amy Jackson, who plays with the Manor/Wawota team, was named the Tournament MVP and awarded a gym bag donated by King's Department Store.

The season is slowly wrapping up as the Cougar's will attend their final tournament before conferences this weekend, Oct. 26 and Oct. 27. The Cougar's will then take part in 3A conferences held in Langenburg the following weekend.

The team is made up of 10 girls: two in grade 12, six from grade 11, and two from grade 10. The season has been going very well for the girls and they are working together as a team, making their coach Bree Ryan very pleased with her team.

"It's a lot of fun, we're mainly out there to have fun and winning is the aftermath of it all," Ryan said.

With the girls having fun and working hard, the season has been very rewarding.

"We've had a lot of support from the fans, parents, and teachers this year, so it's been great," Ryan stated.

Though the season is coming to a close the Cougars are hoping to finish it off strongly as they head into conferences with the goal of reaching regionals and ultimately provincials.
