Estevan U11 AA Bruins finish second at Brandon tournament

Estevan won three straight to reach A final.

The Estevan Ironside Energy U11 AA Bruins finished second at the Tournament of Champions in Brandon on the weekend.

BRANDON - The Estevan Ironside Energy U11 AA Bruins made it to the A final of the Tournament of Champions in Brandon.

The Bruins opened the tournament with a 7-6 loss to St. Boniface Red on Thursday. Ethan Phillips scored three times and Braxton Shier scored once to give Estevan a 4-0 lead, but St. Boniface rallied. Phillips would get one more and Penn Tytlandsvik also scored.

The next game was a 6-2 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings White. Tytlandsvik, Brooks Cote and Phillips scored in the first period, and then Andin Barlow, Phillips and Nash Cameron tallied before the game was finished.

The third game was a 16-1 blowout of the Dauphin Kings. Phillips had four goals and Tyson Stubel had two in the first period alone. Then Phillips scored four more in the second, and Cote, Tytlandsvik and Kolter Snell scored in the second.

Kane Massier, Barlow and Stubel had goals in the third.

In the semifinal against the Regina Mustangs, Estevan raced out to a 6-0 lead in the second period and went on to win 9-5. Phillips and Braxton Shier each scored twice, and Barlow also scored in the first. Phillips had two more in the second, and Phillips and Shier scored in the third.

Estevan fell 8-3 to the Niverville Clippers in the A final. Phillips scored twice in the second to pull Estevan to within two. A goal by Shier made it a 5-3 game midway through the third, but Niverville pulled away with three goals in the final five minutes.

Ty Blackburn was in goal for the games.
