Last week, the spotlight was on the Canadian golfers at the 2013 RBC Canadian Open. Especially for Graham DeLaet, as he signed on as an ambassador for Saskatchewan.

DeLaet is now a member of the Saskatchewan Ambassador Alliance - a group of private-sector companies that have come together to promote Saskatchewan outside its borders as a good place to live, work and do business. DeLaet is the Alliance's first ambassador, and he will sport the thinksask.ca logo on his golf shirt to promote the province on the PGA greens.

The 31-year-old DeLaet, who was born and raised in Weyburn, credits his Saskatchewan roots for helping to shape the golfer he is today.

"Saskatchewan people are tough, determined and resilient," said DeLaet. "These are all qualities that I use to be successful in one of the world's most competitive sports. I am proud to represent Saskatchewan on the PGA Tour and thrilled to be associated with a program that aims to raise awareness for the province."

"Saskatchewan is experience unprecedented growth, we cannot be complacent," said Premier Brad Wall. "We should be pursuing innovative new ways to promote our province."

Wall added that DeLaet was a good person to be a pilot Ambassador. "He has received a lot of TV time lately as one of the world's top-ranked golfers."

"I can't think of a better ambassador to represent Saskatchewan on the world stage," said Wall. "Yes, Graham is a top PGA professional, but he is also a great guy. He always makes times to come home to support local charities. Anyone who meets Graham meets Saskatchewan; successful but humble, hard working and generous."

The Saskatchewan Ambassador Alliance, formed as a non-profit, includes five Saskatchewan companies to cover the costs associated with the pilot project.

Brandt Group of Companies, Cameco Corporation, Magna Electric Corporation (MEC), PotashCorp and Viterra Inc are the first corporate donors. Through an agreement funded by these five corporate partners, DeLaet will wear the thinksask.ca logo on his shirt for the next year.

The skills and abilities of DeLaet are being recognized by other well-known PGA golfers. Recently, seven-time Presidents Cup participant Ernie Els, recently said that he would absolutely like to see Graham DeLaet compete at this years Presidents Cup tournament.
