ESTEVAN - Estevan Police Chief Rich Lowen was sporting some non-traditional attire Monday morning around the police station.

Lowen had to wear a Weyburn Red Wings' jersey after the Red Wings defeated the Estevan Bruins 3-2 Friday night in Weyburn. With the victory, the Red Wings claimed the Highway 39 Cup between the two teams for the first time in the three-year history.

The cup, which is sponsored by Lowen and Weyburn Police Chief Jaime Blunden, goes to the winner of the season series between the long-time rivals. Weyburn has captured all four meetings between the two teams this season; they will meet twice more.

And as part of the wager between the two chiefs, Lowen had to wear the Red Wings' jersey after the game and while working in the office on Monday.

Lowen and Blunden have been friends for years, thanks to their time with the Winnipeg Police Service.
