The Provincial Junior Curling Championships were held at the Weyburn Club from January 3 to 7.
Brady Scharback successfully defended his Provincial Junior Men's title. Defending women's champion, Kristen Streifel was upset by Jessica Hanson in the Provincial Junior Women's final. Scharback defeated Cole Tenetuik 9-2 in the men's final, to go undefeated in the tournament winning seven straight games. Hanson upset Streifel 9-8 in an extra end in an exciting see-saw battle in the women's final.
Scharback and Hanson will now represent Saskatchewan at the Canadian Junior Championships February 2-10 in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
In the men's event, Scharback advanced to the final after defeating Daniel Selke 10-7 in the A1 vs B1 Page Playoff Sunday. Scharback who finished the round-robin portion of the tournament in first place with a 5-0 record moved into the first page playoff game against Selke who finished in first in the "B" pool with a 4-1 record. Selke then lost in the semi-final to Tenetuik 5-3 Sunday night. Tenetuik finished 4-1 in the "A" pool and defeated Jeremy Venderbuhs 6-3 in the A2 vs B2 Page Playoff Sunday afternoon to advance into the semi-final. Check men's results.
In the women's event defending champion, Streifel advanced to the final beating Jessica Hanson 10-5 in the A1 vs B1 Page Playoff Sunday night. Streifel finished in first place in the "A" pool after being tied with Alexandra Williamson and Lorraine Schneider with 4-1 records. Hanson finished in tied with Michaluk with 4-1 records in the"B" pool but due to round-robin head to head play was awarded first place.
Schnedier defeated Williamson 7-4 in the tie-breaker Sunday afternoon to advance to the A2 vs B2 Page Playoff where she defeated Katherine Michaluk 7-4. Hanson beat Schneider in the semi-final Monday morning 7-6 to move into the final against Streifel.
