Bruins defenceman Tyler Kauk is headed to Calgary in a few days to attend the main camp for Canada West for this year's World Junior A Challenge.
Kauk, 19, was one of seven SJHL players on the camp roster announced last night.
Only five 19-year-olds can be selected to the team, so Kauk's chances are limited, but with the offensive dimension he's added to his game this year, he may have a shot.
Kauk had four goals and 23 points in an impressive rookie season last year, but it was his rock solid defensive game and the responsibility he took on as an 18-year-old that had him in the running for SJHL rookie of the year.
He's got a goal and seven assists in 12 games so far this year.
The other six SJHLers invited to the camp are all forwards. They include Flin Flon's Dillan McCombie and Brett Boehm (both of whom should have a VERY good shot to make it), Melville's Russell Trudeau, La Ronge's Rhyse Dieno, Battlefords' Josh Betinol and Nipawin's Tayler Balog.
Dieno and Trudeau are 19.
Meanwhile, this is Halliburton's Back the Bruins Week, in which Bruins players take part in various events around the community.
Players have volunteered at the Days Inn, bagged groceries and played with kids at a daycare so far; here's the schedule for the rest of the week:
