The Marathon of Hope is celebrating its 30th year in 2010 and Weyburnites are encouraged to run, walk or bike in the Terry Fox Run.
The Weyburn Marathon of Hope will be held on Sunday, September 19 at River Park. Registration starts at 1 p.m. from the River Park Camp Ground Office.
"The annual Terry Fox Run is held in more than 70 communities throughout the province," said Robert Barr, provincial director with the Terry Fox Foundation. "It really is amazing that after 30 years, one man's legacy still has the power to unite so many people.
It speaks volumes to the true hero that Terry is."
The 2010 Terry Fox Run will be held in more than 900 communities nationwide on
September 19. In 2009, the Run helped raise more than $1 million for cancer research in Saskatchewan alone.
"Whether you run, walk, bike or wheel, there is no entry fee or minimum donation to take part," explained Barr. "Terry wanted people to give from the heart and show their support by participating even if they couldn't afford a monetary contribution. It's one of the many unique elements that set this fundraiser apart from any other."
The Terry Fox Foundation directs 87 cents of every dollar raised to cancer research, and supports one of the lowest administration cost percentages (three percent) of any Canadian charity. To date, close to $500 million has been raised in Terry's name.
