The Estevan Bruins will be without starting goaltender Curtis Martinu for the next three games.

The SJHL handed down suspensions to him and Nipawin Hawks forward Tad Kozun on Monday for their part in an incident prior to the third period on Saturday.

Kozun also received a three-game ban.

While players were loosening up before the start of the period, Kozun came up to Martinu at centre ice and slashed him in the back of the legs. Martinu, facing the other way, responded by jabbing his stick backward and hitting Kozun with a butt end.

Kozun was given a two-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct while Martinu got a five-minute match penalty.

Nipawin forward Carter Coben was also suspended for one game after he incurred the team's second goalie interference penalty of the game. That is an automatic suspension under the Junior A Supplement.

So it looks like Travis Pelletier, after not getting a start all year, will start three straight games spanning eight days. The Bruins visit Notre Dame tomorrow, host Kindersley on Friday and visit Melville on Nov. 14.

We will likely see 1995 Brett Lewchuk, 1996 Cody Murray or 1996 Levi Eiteneier, or a combination of the three, backing up for those games.

Lewchuk is playing midget AAA with the Saskatoon Blazers, Murray is with the Tisdale Trojans and Eiteneier is the starter for the midget AA Bruins.
