Midget Petro Bakken Wings heading into playoffs

The Wings started off the last four games of their season with a road win over Prairie Storm by a score of 5-2. Wings led the game 3-1 after the 1st period Donovan Lumb scored the first goal with Tucker Neuberger and Brayden Ganson assisting.

Wings led the game 3-1 after the 1st period Donovan Lumb scored the first goal with Tucker Neuberger and Brayden Ganson assisting. Neuberger scored the 2nd goal with Braden Mellon and D. Lumb assisting. Cole Sjostrand rounded out the scoring in the period with Jack Carleton and Braden Rood assisting. The teams played scoreless through the second period. In the final period the Wings out-scored the Storm 2-1. D. Lumb had both goals in the 3rd with Neuberger and Mellon assisting on both. Billy Cuthbert picked up the win in net.

On February 19 the Wings hosted the Estevan Bruins and won the game 5-2. This game was an important win for the Wings but it also was a game that showed how the hockey world and small town communities come together to support one of their own. The game was held as a benefit game for Garrett Dempsey and his family to help raise money to help with Garrett's recovery after a serious accident. Both a silent and a live auction were held with great support from many businesses and also several families from many communities making donations both monetary and with auction items. The day was considered a huge success both on and off the ice. The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period. Scoring in the 1st for Weyburn was Neuberger with D. Lumb assisting. The 2nd goal was scored by Sjostrand with helpers from Carleton and Lyndon Lumb. The second period saw the Wings pull ahead for good with two more goals, Mellon scored with Neuberger and D. Lumb assisting followed up by another goal from Neuberger with Kendall Oliver and D. Lumb assisting. The Wings rounded out the scoring in the third period with an unassisted goal from Kolten Cleasby. Terrick Wilderman played a strong game between the pipes and picked up the win.

The Wings ended the regular season with a home and home series with the ND bantam AAA hounds. On February 21 the Wings travelled to Notre Dame and skated away with an 11-2 victory. The Wings gave up the first two goals of the game to trail the Hounds but proceeded to score the next 11 goals. Scoring 2 goals for the Wings were D. Lumb, Carleton, and Brayden Leslie, scoring once were Mellon, Dan Fellner, Neuberger, Oliver, and Sjostrand. Picking up assists were Ganson (2), Neuberger (2), Mellon (2), Cuthbert (2), D.Lumb, Leslie, L.Lumb, Dan Watson, Cleasby each had 1 assist in the game. Billy Cuthbert picked up the win in net.

Wings entertained the Hounds at home on February 26 and although it was a much closer game, they were successful, winning 4-3. Each team scored twice in the opening period with D. Lumb scoring first for the Wings and Neuberger drew the assist. Mellon scored the second goal with Neuberger assisting on his goal as well. The second period, saw the two teams exchange goals with Mellon scoring on a penalty shot for the Wings. In the third period the two teams battled hard and with just under 3 mins left to play the Wings on the power play scored the winning goal with D. Lumb finding the back of the net with Mellon and Ganson picking up the assists. Billy Cuthbert had another strong game in net picking up the win.

The Wings will now wait for a few days for other teams to finish their remaining regular season before they find out who they will play in the opening round of playoffs which will begin with a home game over the March 3 weekend.
