The Moose Mountain Lions held their 3rd Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 29. A beautiful fall day for golfing was enjoyed by all who participated in the day. The teams of four enjoyed a Texas scramble style tournament.

A total of 112 people turned out for an afternoon of golfing at Golf Kenosee. The fall leaves were turning colours and standing on the first hole the green of the grass shone vibrantly in the contrast of the yellows, oranges, and reds of the trees.

The day first began with a pancake breakfast held at the Moose Mountain Church of Christ from 9 a.m. until noon. During this time individuals and groups registered for the day ahead.

The 18-hole tournament was sponsored by a number of businesses and individuals in the southeast. With a variety of fantastic prizes to be won golfers greatly enjoyed their time on the course. The fundraiser would have brought in a couple thousand dollars as they also held a steak supper following the afternoon of golf.

The day ended up seeing a tie between two four-person teams. One made up of Kent Sauter, David Balfour, Kurtis Kish, and Allan Coffey while the other team was made up of Fritz Sauter, Clarke Lemiuex, Joey Brady and Steven Duke. They tied with strokes of 15 under par, an impressive showing. Though despite this there were golfers there were golfers of all skill levels who came out to enjoy the day.

"Currently we are in the process of going though some information concerning a marina at the lake. We are also donating a portion of the money from the tournament to the Cienna Friesen Fund. There are also a lot of smaller projects around the lake we are looking into like cleaning up the ball diamonds, we've adopted the highway from number nine to the riding academy and are going to be cleaning that up, and walking paths. Basically all sorts of different ways to beautify the village and the park," Kent Sauter, a Moose Mountain Lions member, stated.

This is their third year in operation and they have come to understand what their vision is for the future.

"Our next big fundraiser will be our Winter Carnival, which we will put on in February, but there will be little things we'll do throughout the winter for everyone to enjoy as well," Sauter explained.

Always looking towards the future they aim to keep their community a vibrant, thriving area for all to enjoy.
