For anyone who wasn't aware that ties still exist in the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League, the Estevan Apex Bruins are making the point clear.
Sixty minutes of hockey wasn't enough to decide a winner in either of the Apex Bruins' games on the weekend and they have now tied three of their first four games.
The Bruins drew the Regina Flames 4-4 on Saturday at Spectra Place, one day after a 5-5 tie in Yorkton.
That's enough to put the Bruins (1-0-3) in second place in the SSMHL midget division, one point behind Swift Current.
The Flames took a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes on Saturday on a goal by Anthony Burley.
Estevan responded with a Chase McKersie power play marker at 6:55 of the second, followed about six minutes later by a Blaine Herzberg goal.
Braden Senft evened the score late in the frame.
Bruins' forward Kalum Bieber slipped a backhand past Flames' goalie Carson Bogdan at 3:41 of the third, and the home side added to their lead on a Brad Tomiski goal with less than six minutes to play.
But the Flames weren't done, and they rattled off goals from Corwin Stevely and Burley only 64 seconds apart to earn a single point.
Prior to the Flames' goals, Tomiski was denied on a penalty shot after being hauled down on a breakaway.
In Yorkton on Friday, the Bruins trailed 2-1 after one and 4-3 after two before setting up a wild finish.
Bieber tied the game 4-4 with his second of the night with 3:08 to play.
Then the Bruins got a power play and rookie Zach Paxman netted his second of the game with only 52 seconds left.
Just when it looked like Estevan had pulled off the come-from-behind win, Yorkton's Kolt Konan beat Cody Murray with only 14 seconds remaining for a 5-5 final.
Dylan Lamontagne had the Bruins' other goal in the second period, while Korwin Shewchuk, Troy Zulyniak, Blake Maddaford and Riley Rozdeba also scored for the Terriers.
Estevan dominated the shot tally, doubling up on Yorkton 50-25.
