Estevan's female midget AA hockey era is off to a good start.

The city's new entry in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League, the Estevan PowerTech Panthers, won their first two games of the regular season on the weekend.

The Panthers defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 3-1 on Saturday, then got past the Prairie Storm by the same score on Sunday at the Civic Auditorium.

In Moose Jaw, the Panthers scored two unanswered goals midway through the second period to seal the victory.

They scored the only goal of the first period, with Cassidy Siebert finding the twine six minutes in for the club's first ever goal.

The Warriors tied the game nearly four minutes into the second on a goal by McKenna Stewart.

Estevan would get that one back and more though, scoring two goals that came 1:35 apart.

Lacy Smith got the Panthers back on top with a goal halfway through the period, and Kailey McLellan added some insurance shortly after.

Litesha Spittal was in goal for the Panthers.

On Sunday, the Panthers held off a late charge from the Storm for their second win.

After a scoreless first period, the Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the second. Jenna Kreklewich got them on the board seven minutes into the frame, and Haley Ronyk added to the lead with three minutes left.

The score stayed that way for most of the third period, until Taylor Gravelle scored with three minutes left in regulation to get the Storm within one.

The Panthers would, however, add an empty netter from Ronyk with 24 seconds to play.

Estevan is in Swift Current this weekend for games against the Titans on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Estevan Power Dodge Chargers kicked off their regular season on the road. The bantam A club tied the Regina Tigers 4-4 on Saturday and beat the Regina Shamrocks 6-2 the next day.

On Saturday, the Chargers fell behind three times but got the game-tying goal from Megan LeBlanc with 63 seconds remaining.

It was one of two goals for LeBlanc, while Makenna Morrison and Teanna Sieben also scored. Natasha Brezinski (2), Mackenzie Herrington and Peri Moulding replied for the Tigers.

On Sunday, the Chargers scored four times in the second period to easily handle the Shamrocks.

LeBlanc led the way with a natural hat trick, scoring twice in the first period and again early in the second. Allie Butler, Kamryn Friers and Morrison had the other goals. Hayley Alexander-Meyer and Kaila Neigum scored for the Shamrocks.

The Chargers have two more games this weekend. They host the Tigers on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Civic, then visit the Regina Cougars in the Queen City on Sunday.
