No Heatwave Hoops camp on this year

Heatwave Hoops, a summer basketball camp for youth, will not be running this summer.

Heatwave Hoops, a summer basketball camp for youth, will not be running this summer.

The camp, which usually runs at Weyburn Comprehensive High School, has been put on hiatus due to facility and staff scheduling conflicts this summer, said Jody Kerr, physical education teacher at the Comp.

The renovations to the school were the major reason Kerr said the camp would not be running.

As work continues on the Triple C Centre, the renovations could cause the gym at the school to be out of service, with a possible loss of power this summer, said Kerr.

The camp is also experiencing a temporary shortage of presenters, said Kerr, with the head instructor unavailable this summer due to scheduling conflicts.

Kerr does expect the camp to come back next year though.

"We hope we'll have a new gym facility next year and we'll have staffing back on," said Kerr.

He noted that although this year the camp is short-staffed, presenters are already lined up for next season's camp.

Kerr did have a message for those looking forward to the camp.

"We apologize for the situation in not being able to provide the camp this summer, but we're looking forward to having you join us next summer for the camp."
