Novice Cougars and Wawota Flyers battle for the win

Even though there was no school on Friday January 31st, these Cougars were up early for an 11:00 puck drop on home ice. Remembering the last time they went head to head with Wawota these kids knew they would have to be on their toes.

Even though there was no school on Friday January 31st, these Cougars were up early for an 11:00 puck drop on home ice. Remembering the last time they went head to head with Wawota these kids knew they would have to be on their toes. Always a smart player when he has the puck, Kale Arndt planted the puck in the back of the net, starting off the scoring for his team. Tyrell Dixon never wastes any time once that puck drops, he stays on it and rushes it up the ice every chance he gets and that paid off big time for him in this game with a hat trick and 2 apples for himself. After assisting a goal for his team in the first period Max Waugh watched the game from the penalty box for a bit and when his time was up he went straight back to his position ready for anything Wawota had to offer. The game went from one end of the ice to the other and Wawota showed no signs of letting up but Everett Brown and Black Robertson held the blue, not letting the puck get close to their net. Everett passed the puck along the boards behind the net, Blake picked it up and fired it out of our end, taking the pressure off our net. With all this hard work, it was a close game and the Flyers didn't make it easy, the Cougars took this game for a win. Great hockey game Cougars!

Carlyle Cougars on the Road to Carnduff

On Saturday Feb. 1st the novice Carlyle Cougars made their way to Carnduff for a regular league game. During the first period Carnduff came out strong, and it took the Cougars a while to figure out their weak spot and that's one thing Chase Robertson is good at, finding the spot in the net the goalie has trouble getting to, racking up a few points for himself during this game and helping his team stay in the game. Darcy Rae stayed on every player that came her way with the puck giving them little chance to cross over into our zone or shoot on our net. As a Strong and confident D-man, Grady Benjamin beats Carnduff to the puck and fires it along the boards to his team mate. His feet hit the ice skating as Ty Fehrenbach begins his shift and they never stop when he's on the ice, you can tell he's just itching to chase the puck as he guards the blue line with serious determination. Tossing a few goals our way Daine Thomas stayed in position, ready for the play which helped keep his team stay in the game. The Carnduff Red Devils claimed this game but our Cougars made them work for it.

The Carlyle Cougars vs The Oxbow Huskies

On Sunday February 2nd the Carlyle Cougars challenged the Oxbow Huskies in a regular league game. Alexander Bradley with some new gear settled in between the pipes for his third game in three days. Keeping his eye on the puck he never let one passed him in the first two periods. Mason Barta had a fantastic game against the Huskies racking up several goals and assist to add to his roster. Being in the right place at the right time, Jackson Humphries was putting the puck in the net or making a smart pass to one of his team mates every time he was on the ice. Both teams played well during this game, whether it was the cheering from the fans in the stands or the pep talk from the coaches when the player finished a shift, you could tell these kids were here to play hockey. Every time Mitch Himmelspach was on the ice he touch the puck whether he was passing, poking it off the opposing teams stick, digging it out of the corner or putting it in the net. A hockey team can never have a good game without strong defense, with every game she plays Samantha Colpitts improves helping her team to capture another win. Great team work Cougars. Next week end the novice Carlyle Cougars will have a fun filled weekend of hockey and hanging with friends during their tournament.
