The Weyburn Midget Petro Bakken Wings hosted the Yorkton Terriers on February 5. After having ten days off without a game, the team came out a little rusty at first and the Wings quickly found themselves down 2-0 in the first ten minutes of the game. After that they seemed to find another gear and before the end of the first they found themselves tied 2-2. Tucker Neuberger was the first to score with assists going to Cole Sjostrand and Donovan Lumb. The second goal was one of several in the game that would count as highlight reel goals. Braden Mellon picked up a beautiful pass and walk-in and undressed the goalie before depositing the puck in the back of the net.

The second period saw the Wings take control and score eight goals while only allowing two from their opponent. Mellon led the parade in the second scoring one minute in to the period with Neuberger and D. Lumb assisting. D. Lumb scored unassisted, less than a minute later after a scramble in front of the Terrier net that actually went in off of a Yorkton defender. Yorkton replied with a goal a few minutes later to cut the lead to 4-3 before Neuberger turned the lights out on any comeback plans when he scored two goals five seconds apart to stretch the lead to 6-3 with Mellon and D. Lumb assisting on the first goal, while the second was unassisted. Cole Sjostrand scored the seventh goal of the game, with Kyle Crozier and Brayden Leslie picking up the assists. Weyburns eighth goal and sixth of the period was scored by Kolten Cleasby with linemates Lyndon Lumb and Jack Carleton assisting. Neuberger joined the party again scoring his third goal of the period and fourth of the game assisted by D.Lumb. Rounding out the scoring was Sjostrand with another unassisted goal. The third period saw the two teams continue to battle without any further scoring. Billy Cuthbert picked up the win in net.

The Petro Bakken Wings would like to invite everyone to the Garrett Dempsey Benefit Game against the Estevan Apex Bruins on Sunday, February 19th 12:00 noon at Crescent Point Place. Dempsey, a member of the Petro Bakken Midget Wings, was in a serious vehicle accident on his way home from a practice last autumn. After a long stay in the Regina hospital, Garrett is now in the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre receiving extensive therapy. The Petro Bakken players and parents would like to invite all to our benefit game on February 19, where several items will be up for silent and live auction. Lots of great items have been donated by local sports personalities and also several local businesses and there is sure to be something for everyone. All proceeds from the auction, the 50/50 draw and gate admissions will go directly to Dempsey's family to help with costs. Please come out and help us pack the rink and support a wonderful family.
