Pouliot invited to selection camp

Portland Winterhawks defenseman and former Weyburn resident, Derrick Pouliot is one of the 25 players invited to Canada's National Junior Team selection camp.

Pouliot started the year with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but was sent back to Portland for further development. In 24 games with the Winterhawks, he has tallied 7 goals and 18 assists, totalling 25 points.

The selection camp will run December 12-15 in Toronto, Ontario. Canada's final roster for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship in Malmö, Sweden, will include 22 players, and will be finalized by Dec. 25.

The tournament takes place from December 26 - January 5. Game 1 features Canada and Germany at 6:30 a.m. on Boxing Day.

Canada has dominated the world junior event winning 28 medals overall, including 15 gold.
