Provincial High School wrestling championships set for this weekend

The SHSAA will be staging the 2013 High School Provincial Wrestling Championships on March 8 and 9 in Regina. The tournament will be hosted by the RHSAA at the University of Regina.

The tournament will be hosted by the RHSAA at the University of Regina. Chuck Toth, Commissioner of Athletics for the RHSAA will act as commissioner for the event.

Approximately 115 girls and 175 boys will compete in the different weight classes for each gender. Student athletes qualified for the championship through the Saskatoon and Regina city championships as well as the Rural Regional Championship that were held at Moose Jaw Peacock Collegiate.

Competition gets under way on Friday with the first bouts scheduled for 4:00pm. Wrestling continues on Saturday starting at 9:00am concluding with the championship matches in the afternoon.

Wrestlers compete individually but also as part of a school team in either the 3A (250 or fewer male or female students in grades 10-12) or 4A classification (more than 250 male or female students in grades 10-12).
